The True Reason for celebrating Cinco de Mayo

The VerbumQUO for today on the Feast of the holy and worthy Pope Saint Pius V is "ædificábo" which is "I will build" for the Latin future first conjugation singular of ædificáre. This verb fits perfectly with Pope St. Pius V for he, of all Popes, built what Christ had established 1525 years earlier by codifying the infallible dogmatic decrees of the Council of Trent and set in stone "in perpetuity" the continual Sacrifice with the Latin Mass, often called Tridentine Mass from the time of Trent, but known universally today as the Traditional Latin Mass with his infallible Papal Bull Quo Primum, assuring the bread and wine would be properly confected through his decree De defectibus.

Editor's Note: This reflective series highlights one word from the Proper of the day's Mass. Taking the Latin Verbum and Quotidianum, which mean respectively "Word" and "Daily", we have coined the word "Verbumquo" by contracting quotidianum to quo and running it together as VerbumQUO for this feature series, thus "The Daily Word," as in the sum of the message, the 'quotient', if you will. It is also our hope that in choosing the Latin word with its meaning and etymology more will be attuned to hearing the word read at the altar and better comprehend the beauty of the Mother tongue. Hopefully in this glorious time of Pascaltide we can gain a higher appreciation and contemplation on how the Daily Proper of the Holy Mass applies in our lives in alignment with the will of Christ and His Blessed Immaculate Mother and His Mystical Bride, His Holy Roman Catholic Church.

The VerbumQUO for today's feast of one of the holiest of Sovereign Pontiffs in the history of the Church Pope Saint Pius V, 225th Successor of Peter, is "ædificábo" which translated is "I will build" taken from the Alleluia, Gospel and Communion of today's Proper of the Mass Si diligis Me. The Latin verb ædificábo is the first person singular future tense of ædificáre, "to build." It is most appropriate considering that it was His Holiness St. Pius V who took the charge of our Lord seriously and trusted totally in the Providence of God as well as the powerful intercession of His Blessed Mother Mary. He was a true shepherd who re-established, thanks to the Council of Trent, the holy Roman Catholic Church which had been in the throes of rebellion without and within thanks to the lapse in virtues from ecclesiastics in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries - most notably the popes - and the resulting devastating Protestant Revolution, also called by historians the Reformation. It was the Counter-Reformation of Trent which re-established Holy Mother Church thanks to the wisdom and obedience of St. Pius V. Truly he was a builder, reinforcing what Christ had built and which Jesus Himself said in Matthew 16: 18 as we see in today's Alleluia:
Allelúja, allelúja. (Matthew 16: 18) Tu es Petrus, et super hanc petram ædificábo Ecclésiam Meam. Allelúja.
Alleluia, alleluia. (Matthew 16: 18) Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church. Alleluia.

The full scope of ædificábo is detailed in today's Gospel from Matthew 16: 13-19:
At that time, Jesus came into the quarters of Cæsarea Philippi, and He asked His disciples, saying, "Whom do men say that the Son of man is?" But they said, Some, John the Baptist, and other some, Elias, and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. Jesus saith to them,"But Whom do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answering, said to him, "Blessed art thou, Simon BarJona, because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but My Father Who is in Heaven: and I say to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this Rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it; and to thee I will give the keys of the kingdom of Heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in Heaven; and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in Heaven."

Matthew 16: 18 is repeated again in today's Communion verse:
Tu es Petrus, et super hanc Petram ædificábo Ecclésiam Meam. Allelúja.
Thou art Peter, and upon this Rock I will build My Church. Alleluia.

The pronunciation of ædificábo is AIDEE-FEE-CAH-BO with the emphasis on the accent or in the phonetics in the bold. The English word "build" comes from the Anglo Saxon woud byldan from the word bold meaning "house." To build a house, one constructs an edifice and thus we see the correlation of ædificábo with edifice or edify. So we shall examine Webster's definition of edify:

"Edify", verb [From Latin verb ædificáre transmuted into Old French edifier. The word is derived from the Latin word for house or building ædes + ficare to make.] 1. Archaic. To build; to construct; hence, to organize; establish. 2. To instruct and improve especially by good example; to profit morally or spiritually. edification, edifier, nouns. edificatory, adjective."

The above definition not only fits St. Pius V to a "t" but explains why Saint Jerome chose the Latin ædificábo in translating the Aramaic words Christ spoke. Indeed what our Lord was saying in establishing His Church upon the Rock of Peter was that He was not physically building an edifice, but rather instructing and improving what had been the Old Covenant. He had come to fulfill the Law and to construct a purer one. He preached to His Apostles and followers to be a good example, "to love one another as I have loved you." He established His Church so that men would profit morally and spiritually and so He organized His Church as a monarchy with Peter as the head, but Christ would always be the true Head; the members would compose the Mystical Body of Christ. That is why, even when there is not a visible "Peter" when the Chair is vacant - no matter the length of time for now time limits were ever determined - we know Christ is still Head of His Church and, true to His promise in today's Gospel of Matthew 16: 19, "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"!

Oh, they have tried, aside from our present time, few epochs in history were more tenuous than the time shortly after the close of the Council of Trent which had lasted 18 years with twenty-five sessions, the twenty-second being the most important in establishing once and for all the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as untouchable (or so all thought until Giovanni Montini dared to "incur the wrath of Almighty God and the Blessed Apostles, Peter and Paul" as previous reliable and holy Popes, including St. Pius V, warned so vehemently). That is why of all the Papal decrees, St. Pius V's Quo Primum stands as one of the most vital and lasting for he decreed that his mandate be kept "in perpetuity." Holy Mother Church indeed was obedient to this, publishing in every Missale Romano the full text of Quo Primum in exacting the rubrics of the Holy Mass. Back before Vatican II, Mass meant one thing. Today that same Mass is called the Traditional Latin Mass to differentiate it from the Modernist-Masonic-Protestant-Pagan rite of the New Order or Novus Ordo which Montini, with the help of the demonic Mason Annibale Bugnini forced on the faithful.

It had been left to the holy Pius V by his successor Pope Pius IV (who brought the Council of Trent to a close) to codify the decrees of Trent and to implement the Counter-Reformation mandated by Trent. This was vital to thwart the Protestant threat which had made such inroads in the Rhineland, but not in Italy, France, Spain and Austria. Indeed Italy, and the rest of Europe had a common foe and thanks to the unyielding faith of St. Pius V, who edified all as a holy Roman Pontiff, that strength of faith in Heaven's help played a significant role in turning back the infidel Turks and Muslim religion at the historic and landmark Battle of Lepanto. The Muslim military leader Selim of the Ottoman Empire threatened all of Europe and, perceiving the Christian flanks (Catholic as opposed to the idea that Protestants were still Christians) weakened from battling Protestant forces and weary of battle, dared to steer his armada into the Gulf of Lepanto intent on conquering the weak resistance he anticipated and then do what Attila the Hun and other barbarian tribes never did: overrun Europe. Little did Selim realize this would be done in the 21st century with very few shots even taken thanks to the caving constitution of the conciliar church and a political correctness run amok where today Muslims are fast becoming the majority in once-Christian Europe. Thank you, Martin Luther; thank you, Vatican II!

But back to the time of Lepanto. Whereas in the past less than a century before, Popes had led troops into physical battle, this time Pius V led all of Christendom into battle on his knees, calling upon the faithful to pray the Rosary for victory. Buoyed by this weapon of mass destruction against the crescent moon, Don Juan of Austria marshaled his fleet into position and, through Our Lady's intercession, the Turks suffered their greatest defeat as it rivaled David against Goliath in a resounding victory for the Christian navy. Immediately the holy Pontiff established a feast on the date of the victory - October 7, 1571 - to honor and thank Our Lady of Victory. It was later adopted for the universal Church as the feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. The noted Benedictine Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger annotates how Pius knew the Christians had conquered.

The battle between the Christian and Turkish fleets lasted from six o'clock in the morning till late in the afternoon. Towards evening, the Pontiff suddenly looked towards Heaven, and gazed upon it in silence for a few seconds. Then turning to his attendants, he exclaimed: 'Let us give thanks to God! The Christians have gained the victory!' The news soon arrived at Rome; and thus, Europe once more owed her salvation to a Pope!."

We speak of ædificábo as one who builds through good example and improves morality and spirituality. The Abbot shares several examples of this edification in the life of the holy Pius. The first references the Protestants' admiration for this humble, but powerful foe:

"The zeal of this holy Pope for the reformation of Christian morals, his establishment of the observance of the laws of discipline prescribed by the Council of Trent and his publication of the new Breviary and Missal have made his six years' pontificate to be one of the richest periods of the Church's history. Protestants themselves have frequently expressed their admiration of this vigourous opponent of the so-called Reformation. 'I am surprised,' said Bacon, 'that the Church of Rome has not yet canonized this great man.' Pius V did not receive this honor till about a hundred and thirty years after his death; so impartial is the Church , when she has to adjucate this highest of earthly honors even to her most revered Pastors!"

Interesting, is it not, that Holy Mother Church waited a century and three decades before elevating such a holy man, whereas the conciliar church couldn't wait until Angelo Roncalli was in his coffin before they began process for canonizing this suspected Freemason, and what can we say about the suspected Communist agent Karol Wojtyla? Why all one needs to do to be canonized in the saints-factor faux church of Vatican II is have a good PR campaign and get those Santo Subito signs distributed in key locations because the Modernists never rule by principle or truth, but by opinion and polls. We can see how many times the modern Vatican has contradicted themselves and outright lied to cover another lie. No place for saints. That is just more evidence that the Church which St. Pius V governed and the Church that canonized him is not the same church of the conciliarists. The former is fully Catholic; the latter has no semblance in Heaven to Catholicity. Now let us return to another edifying example of Pius' holiness as recorded by Dom Gueranger:

Of the many miracles which attested the merits of the holy Pontiff, even during his life, we select the two following: As he was one day crossing the Vatican piazza, which is on the site of the ancient Circus of Nero, he was overcome with a sentiment of enthusiasm for the glory and courage of the martyrs who had suffered on that very spot in the first persecution. Stooping down, he took up a handful of dust from the hallowed ground which had been trodden by so many generations of the Christian people since the peace of Constantine. He put the dust into a cloth which the Ambassador of Poland, who was with him, held out to receive it. When the Ambassador opened the cloth, after returning to his house, he found it all saturated with blood, as fresh as though it had been that moment shed: the dust had disappeared. The faith of the Pontiff had evoked the blood of the martyrs, which thus gave testimony against heretics that the Roman Church, in the sixteenth century, was identically the same as that for which brave heroes and heroines laid down their lives in the days of Nero.

"The heretics attempted more than once to destroy a life which baffled all their hopes of perverting the faith of Italy. By a base and sacrilegious stratagem, aided by treachery, they put a deadly poison on the feet of the crucifix which the Saint kept in his Oratory, and which he was frequently seen to kiss with great devotion. In the fervor of prayer, Pius was about to give this mark of love to the image of his crucified Master, when suddenly the feet of the crucifix detached themselves from the Cross and eluded the proffered kiss of the venerable old man. The Pontiff at once saw through the plot whereby his enemies would fain have turned the life-giving Tree into an instrument of death."

We know in our own time that such heavenly wisdom was not afforded Albino Luciani who was poisoned in 1978 by demonic forces within the modern Vatican, and replacing him was a man now greatly suspected of being a communist agent in Poland for several years and being accorded privileges that non-communists were not given. It all makes sense as history further unfolds and slowly but surely we can see that John Paul the Great was really Comrade John Paul the Deceiver. While St. Pius V built up and edified all, Wojtyla brought shame and scandal to the papacy with his total acceptance of the world and New Order, including his embrace of the creed of the anti-Catholic French Revolution, "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity" which he "proudly" pronounced during his final visit to France before the despot Mitteraud and all the liberal secular media. One man, a holy pope, truly could say ædificábo and show visible proof of his accomplishment in edifying and building all that is good for centuries to come, the other, an unholy scandal, would say conterabo - "I will destroy" and show visible proof of his deeds as the fruits wither and die, the residue of the ashes a mess to clean up for centuries to come.

It is all more evidence that the difference between a truly holy pope and the imposters who have occupied the chair over the past 50 years provides all the proof necessary to deduct that the conciliar church and those who rule it are not Catholic but heretics, no different than the Protestant heretics who tried to foil Pius, but God would not have it. We must pray God will rise up another St. Pius V and, through using the most powerful weapon we have - Mary's holy Rosary - we will be victorious over the demonic-masonic institution that dares to eclipse the True Church, the Church of St. Pius V. With all the commotion about immigration these days, many will pervert today's celebration as a Mexican holiday of independence - talk about a conundrum: why then do they want to flee to the U.S.? In truth the Feast of St. Pius V should be remembered as the true reason for celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
