SPECIAL PRAYER
February 1st used to be the Feast of Saint Ignatius of Antioch which has since been transferred to October 17th. Since no saint has replaced him on this day, we bring you the Prayer for St. Ignatius:
Behold our weakness, Almighty God; and since the weight of our misdeeds is heavy upon us, grant that the glorious intercession of Blessed Ignatius, Thy Martyr and Bishop, may be our protection.
DAILY LITURGY
Today is the Fourth Tuesday in Ordinary Time while tomorrow we celebrate the glorious Feast of the PRESENTATION OF OUR LORD
in the Temple. Previously this was called the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary which occurred at the same time when she and Joseph presented two turtle-doves in accordance with Jewish Law for the mother to be purified after giving birth. For the readings, liturgies, meditations, and vignettes on this feast, see DAILY LITURGY.
The DAILY WORD

"And Jesus, instantly perceiving in Himself that power had gone forth from Him, turned to the crowd, and said, 'Who touched My cloak?' And His disciples said to Him, 'Thou seest the crowd pressing upon Thee, and dost Thou say, 'Who touched Me?' And He was looking round to see her who had done this. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened within her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth. But He said to her, 'Daughter, thy faith has saved thee. Go in peace, and be thou healed of thy affliction.'" Mark 5: 30-34

Events that happened this Weekend in Church History
On this date 1,228 years ago in 772 Pope Hadrian I was chosen the 95th successor of Peter. During his 23 year papacy he restored the walls of Rome and the ancient aqueducts and was responsible for constructing the golden statue of the tomb of St. Peter and other elaborations at the Vatican. He was a strong opponent of iconoclasm and called the 7th Ecumenical Council at Nicaea for the specific purpose of condeming this heresy. For other time capsule events that happened in Church history on this date, see MILLENNIUM MILESTONES AND MEMORIES
This week we take to the skies for two excellent selections and a British mystery with twists and turns
Today an excellent British mystery makes its debut in the video stores - "The Winslow Boy" which is an adaptation by David Mamet of the 1948 film of the same name which still packs an intelligent punch. Also, we take to the skies to bring you a classic in Jimmy Stewart's "Spirit of St. Louis" and the most recent feel-good film - "October Sky". For the reviews of these videos, see VIDEOS & VIRTUES
Parenting can be God's kiln of kindness
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"The duty of parents to children is to rule while avoiding exasperating severity on the one hand and excessive indulgences on the other. God gives parents a child as so much plastic material that can be molded for good or evil."

Pope presides at opening of new six-story Parking Garage built to handle increased traffic at Vatican
After several delays, a six-story parking garage was officially opened Monday within walking distance of the Vatican just in time to handle the crush of motorists pouring into the city for Jubilee Year 2000. The Holy Father took part in ceremonies opening the new facility that was equally funded by the City of Rome and the Holy See. It is situated beneath the Janiculum hill above Vatican City and will help ease the traffic jams around St. Peter's. continued inside.
Pope John XXIII would have loved it: "Papa Giovanni's Caress" will ride again!

One car that they're taking out of the garage is Pope John XXIII's navy blue Fiat limo and putting it to the kind of use the late Pontiff who will be declared blessed this year would have loved. It will be used exclusively to transport handicapped children to and from the Vatican and around the eternal city to see major attractions such as the Colisseum, Trevi Fountain, etc. It dates back to when the Pope would spontaneously offer children rides calling it the "Pope's Caress." Organizers are even planning for selected celebrities to ride along to enhance the children's experience. continued inside.
Persecution of Loyal Catholics in China on the rise
The Cardinal Kung Foundation out of the east coast has confirmed that there has been no improvement in China. Rather the opposite is true with many more arrests and harassment of Catholics loyal to Rome in their attempt to control and force people to profess their allegiance to the Chinese government which runs the Patriotic Catholic Church and is not in union with Rome. Those loyal priests and bishops are further tortured and sentenced to isolation after they refuse to abandon the One, True Church greatly paralleling the early Christian martyrs. continued inside.

Gay proponents in Scotland show their hand with video, provide proof Cardinal Winning is right

For weeks Scotland's Cardinal Thomas Winning had been the lone voice warning the people of the great danger of repealing Section 28, a referendum up for vote in Britain. Were it to pass it would open the door for more permissiveness to homosexuality and promoting the gay lifestyle. While the gay proponents had vehemently denied it, a teaching video tape proves the cardinal is once again right in exposing the gay agenda before it's too late.
