Saturday is the Feast of Saint Martha, Disciple of the Lord. Often it is Martha who represents the Corporal Works of Mercy, while her sister Mary represents the Spiritual Works of Mercy. Both are important as are the balance of physical, daily labor and responsibilities with our need to spend quiet time in praise, adoration, petition and thanksgiving to God.

Saturday is the 901st anniversary of the death of Pope Saint Urban II, the holy Pontiff who established the "Truce of God" - a time-out, if you will, from war to bury the dead. This evolved because of the casualties suffered during the holy wars between Christian and Muslim during the tenth, eleventh and twelfth centuries that were called the "Crusades" with the first begun by Urban.
