FRIDAY
On FIRST FRIDAY September 1st we bring you Sister Mary Lucy Astuto's column in which she extolls the virtues of Saint Augustine, offering him as an ideal saint to emulate in these days when so many are seeking answers and coming up empty. She points out that few had as many vices as Augustine, but he was able to overcome them by giving himself to his Creator in body, mind and soul.

SATURDAY
On FIRST SATURDAY, besides being a Weekday in Ordinary Time, it is also the customary Observance of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, a tradition that goes back to the days of Charlemagne. The First Saturdays tradition is more recent, dating back to 1917 at Fatima where Our Lady requested of the visionaries at Fatima that all her children honor her Immaculate Heart and offer reparation for sins through First Saturday devotions.
