The voters chose as the 88th TOP CATHOLIC OF THE CENTURY: the giving physician Dr. Tom Dooley, a young ex-Navy doctor who, rather than returning to the states to reap the spoils of private practice, chose to answer God's call to minister to the poorest of the poor in Southeast Asia before his life was sadly cut short by cancer. On this date 528 years ago Cardinal Francesco della Rovere was elected as the 212th successor of Peter, becoming Pope Sixtus IV. He would go on to establish the Feast of Saint Joseph, construct the Sistine Chapel and be the first pontiff to celebrate Mass there, and found the Spanish Inquisition. It was Sixtus IV who appointed the controversial Dominican Tomas de Torquemada as the grand inquisitor. In honor of the 200th Anniversary of the Blessed Mother's apparitions in Vietnam as Our Lady of La Vang, the Holy Father has sent a special message to the people there as they make preparations next weekend for celebrating the event. Though disappointed that the Pope has chosen India to close the Asian Synod, they are still hopeful he will stop off in Vietnam. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the target date a pro-life group is encouraging faithful all across the United States to pray in front of abortuaries in prayerful hope that, through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe who came in 1531 to stop human sacrifice, she can be instrumental in helping end the human sacrifice of abortion today which has claimed the lives of countless millions of unborn.
