Holy Father will beatify Fatima seers at Fatima on Feast of Fatima in May
The Vatican announced that the Holy Father will add Fatima to his Papal Intinerary in 2000 and that he will go in May to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and to beatify Fatima seers Francisco and his sister Jacinto Sarto who both died of illnesses shortly after the apparitions ceased. Only Sister Lucia is still alive and is expected to be invited to this august occasion that will take place at Fatima during his two day stay in Portugal. Controversy swirls over whether Israel will backtrack on mosque offer as Vatican continues to question decision
 
The government of Israel has backed themselves into a corner and now they're doing the two-step trying to rationalize the decision to grant a mosque immediately next to the Church of the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth. As more facts filter out, we discover that it was not only an ill-advised move but greatly criticized within Ehud Barak's own cabinet.  Holy Father Y2K ready with expose of millenarianist fears in soothing flock to not worry
The Holy Father took on the millenarianists on the First Sunday of Advent, also addressing Y2K which has been on the world's mind and assured all we have nothing to worry about if we are prepared in our hearts and the Advent of the Great Jubilee provides the perfect preparation spiritually for all of us. He exposed as error the millennium heresy that Christ will reign for 1000 years and pointed out that Y2K is the brainchild of new ageism that tries to mix metaphors and theology into a metaphysical mix of fear mongering that has alarmed the world unduly. Martyrdom, Mayhem, and Madness mark weekend around the world
   
While Americans were celebrating Thanksgiving weekend, mourners in East Timor and the Congo were burying their dead, in Sri Lanka Catholic officials were scrambling to take care of 10,000 refugees, and in London a madman ran au naturel into a Catholic church, wielding a sword and interrupting the Mass just before the Gospel wounding eleven in the congregation before being apprehended. In East Timor the body of three priests were uncovered. They had been killed in September by pro-Indonesian militants during the month-long seige that laid waste to this Catholic country on the far end of the Indonesian archipelago. In the Congo, a priest was shot to death by the same group responsible for the genocide of 800,000 in Rwanda in 1994, and in Sri Lanka tens of thousands sought refuge at a shrine devastated by the civil war and the monsoon threats. On this date 169 years ago in 1830 Pope Pius VIII, the 253rd successor of Peter died after a one and a half year pontificate. It was Pius VIII who began the Vatican Postal Service and strengthened missionary activity around the world. He helped the Armenian people in his negotiations with the Sultan, something Pope John Paul II credited during his Papal Visit to Armenia this year.
