222 A.D.
Death of Pope Saint Calixtus I or Callistus, Martyr who was beaten to death with clubs and his remains thrown into a well where the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere now stands. He was responsible for the excavation of the famous Catacombs on the Via Appia where 46 Popes and about 200,000 martyrs are buried. For more on Calixtus, see DAILY LITURGY.
