Pope reminds faithful of the power of the Rosary during his Sunday Angelus
Citing the power and results achieved through recitation of the Holy Rosary, Pope John Paul II urged all the faithful in St. Peter's Square and throughout the world to utilize this special weapon of love as often as possible to remind us of the mysteries of Christ and the fiat of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who like a loving mother, is there for us always. He made the comments in conjunction with October being the month of the Holy Rosary and on the heels of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. For more, click on Sunday Angelus.
The Red Sickle shadowed the Vatican according to the KGB, Bugs placed inside the Vatican
It sounds like right out of a Malachi Martin novel, but it is evidently more true than fiction: The KGB did have bugs inside the Vatican and tried its best to recruit Vatican staffers to spy on the Holy See for the former Soviet Union. These facts were released by the former KGB in a report called the "Mitrokhin Dossier" which verifies the Kremlin's intriguing interest in the Vatican and their great fear that western powers were controlling the Holy See. The report reads like a spy novel except it is the real thing, compiled over the decades of the seventies and eighties when the cold war was at its height and the Kremlin was pulling out all stops to clandestinely infiltrate the hallowed halls of the Vatican. Postulator for Pius XII's cause will not be deterred by slander and lies against the 260th successor of Peter
Despite pressure from some within the Vatican and many in the secular media, not to mention the radical Jewish groups and their front man the sleaze British journalist John Cornwell, the postulator for Pope Pius XII's cause for canonization Father Peter Gumpel insists the process continues and is undaunted by the lies and slander hurled upon this Pope of World War II who is accused by many radicals, with no substantial proof from anyone whatsoever, that he did not do enough to aid the Jews and actually was an ally of the Nazis. The book by Father Pierre Blet "Pius XII and the Second World War in the Vatican Archives" brings to light the many good and even heroic deeds the former Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli performed in helping his Jewish brethren. New book on Papacy "Pope Fiction" exposes pulp fiction of those intent on sewing dissension and bashing the Church
American author Patrick Madrid has released a work entitled "Pope Fiction" which puts to rest the rumors and slanders against the papacy that have cropped up over the years and contributed greatly to the confusion on the Vicar of Christ. Madrid's book is a refreshing positive take in light of the most recent spat against Pope Pius XII by radical Jewish groups and John Cornwell in his book "Hitler's Pope" which thrives on bashing Pius XII with no substantiation whatsoever. Madrid uses scripture and a light, even humorous style to refute all charges against the hallowed office of the Sovereign Pontiff. For more, click on Positive pitch on the Papacy.

Events Today in Church History
On this date eighty-two years ago the Mother of God appeared to the visionaries Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia for the final time in Fatima, Portugal. On this occasion Our Lady imparted that her Immaculate Heart would triumph in the end and presented a special present for all in attendance at the Cova with the special "miracle of the Sun" in which the sun danced and darted and seemed as if it were plummeting towards earth before swinging back and remaining stationary. All saw it and attested to the supernatural phenomena. The Church agreed in later years and today Fatima is a fully approved Shrine worthy of veneration. SIMPLY SHEEN: The ultimate Harmonizer!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"There are three spirits which may govern the human heart: the spirit of the world, the spirit of evil, and the Spirit of God. There is no disharmony caused by the first two that cannot be turned into a melody of joy by the Spirit of God, which is beyond the human and the psychological. When it is recognized that nothing so splits a man as sin, then immediately it becomes clear that nothing so much harmonizes a man as the Savior."
