Events that happened Today in Church History
Today is the 469th anniversary of the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the humble, poor hermit Blessed Juan Diego on a hill called Guadalupe in what is today Mexico and was then, the seat of the Aztec empire. Our Lady came to ask that human sacrifice be stopped and through Blessed Juan's obedience to her request, millions of souls came to Christ and His Holy Church in the New World at the same time millions, who were born to the Faith, chose to reject it in the devastating Protestant Reformation in the Old World. Today Our Lady of Guadalupe stands as "Our Lady of the Americas" and her mission remains the same, to stop human sacrifice - the terrible holocaust of the womb in the inhumane act of abortion. Indeed, more unborn innocents have been slaughtered in the womb than all the Aztec sacrifices and, in fact, all the men who have fallen in battle throughout time in memorial. Treat your arguers with love
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"The attitude to take toward those who differ with us. The answer is charity, love, benevolence and a recognition of the sincerity of motives and honesty of purposes of others. Sometimes this is called tolerance, but tolerance can be bad as well as good."
