Events that happened Today in Church History

Today is the 52nd anniversary of Pope Pius XII's 15th encyclical In multiplicibus curis on prayers for peace for Palestine. This followed his encyclical Auspicia quaedam six months earlier on May 1, 1948 in which Pius pleaded to the world for prayers for world peace and a solution to the problem of Palestine with Israel becoming a state once again under David Ben Gurion. Interesting isn't it, that after a half century we are right back where we were in biblical times with the Palestinians and Israelites at war. Both sides need to give way to God's Will and take into consideration the plight of the people of both nations. Pope John Paul II has called for Sovereignty of Jerusalem to be placed in God's hands with no temporal government ruling Jerusalem. Only time and prayer will tell. Making truth personal through solitude with God
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"Only in solitariness is true spirituality born, when the soul stands naked before its God. In that moment these are the only two realities in the universe. In this discovery is born love of neighbor, for then we love our fellow human beings, not because of what they can do for us, but because we see that they too are real or potential children of God. Though truth is not personal, we make it personal by contemplation."
