In these times when confusion reigns and many fear there is a growing split between the Roman Catholic Church and the "American Catholic Church" many do not know where to turn for answers. While we don't tout too many things in these pages in striving to keep it ad-free and pure, we can't emphasize enough the importance of INSIDE THE VATICAN in your life. It's your portal to gaining unrestricted access to many areas that most never see, to understanding clearly how the Magisterium operates, how the Curia works, how the Church is bearing great fruit and how deep our Catholic culture goes. Lent is a time to take stock of the Beatitudes
In his column today, Pat Ludwa prepares us for Lent by reminding us of the pertinence of the Beatitudes imparted by Jesus. He points out that "The Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount, are not simply a type of poetry or unreachable ideals, but rather a blueprint, a map, for living a Christian lifestyle precisely. It isn't that they're easy to do, but necessary if we are to call ourselves Catholics, or Christian. To follow the Beatitudes is to accept struggles. Final Day of Jubilee Papal Visit to Egypt
 
On this day one year ago Pope John Paul II spent his third and final day in Egypt on the second leg of his historic "Jubilee Journey" retracing Salvation History. On this day he journeyed to the foot of Mount Sinai where he was greeted at the St. Catherine's Greek Orthodox monastery at the base of the peak and then, in a special ceremony above the monastery, retraced the footsteps of Moses near the place of the Burning Bush where God appeared to Moses and declared "I AM WHO AM" before giving him the Ten Commandments. American Cardinals dismiss conclave-talk, express their feelings that the Pope has many more years left in him
In an informal poll of some of the new cardinals of the Church, every one of them to a man believes Pope John Paul II has still miles to go before he sleeps. Washington D.C.'s Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the newest of the Archbishops, is 71 and he doesn't believe he'll ever be called to Conclave. That's over nine years to go. Cardinal Edward M. Egan of New York believes the same thing. So while many of the media speculate on who the next Pope will be, we can feel secure that for now we have one who is very much alive and in control. Bush administration seriously studying sanctions
Plea from Holy Father being considered in relaxing sanctions against Iraqi people
Secretary of State Colin Powell is finishing up his trip to the mideast and is on record as to relaxing restrictions that have greatly hampered the innocent citizens of Iraq and other countries. The Pope has pleaded with America to lift the sanctions but under the Clinton administration they were tightened even more as Clinton himself ignored the Pontiff's common sense. Now under the new administration, President George W. Bush is leaning toward heeding what the Holy Father has been asking. For more, see USA News

Planned Parenthood loses another case in court
"Why would you wash your hands if they weren't
bloody?"
That was the question the plaintiff asked and the jury as well in deciding against Planned Parenthood in a botched abortion case in which the mother, who had more than one abortions on the same child, was awarded over $672,000. in punitive damage. More and more we are seeing more abortionists being called to account for their actions and more courts are ruling against them, realizing the gruesome deed of the pro-aborts. Many churches left out in the cold by Russia's big chill on religious liberty
While the Cold War may be over, the big chill continues for many churches in the former Soviet Union. Between the governments and the Russian Orthodox hammer, many are being frozen out by unrealistic statutes that greatly punish them with rigid standards that can not feasibly meet. There is growing concern that both mosque, church and temple are being closed because of deadline regulations of re-registering with little or no notice or requirements that greatly hinder staying in existence. Ultimate Gift of Love defines City of brotherly love 267 years ago
On this date in 1734 the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was said by Father Greaton in the first Catholic church in America - St. Joseph's Church in the city of Philadelphia. This was 42 years before our founding fathers would gather in this same city to formulate the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It is fitting that this city is known as the city of brotherly love for Jesus, offered up as a perfect sacrifice of atonement in an unbloody manner in the Mass is the apex of brotherly love for no greater love does one have than to give their life for another (cf. Being human, He could suffer as one of us, and in our name; being God, His sufferings would have infinite value, and blot out all the debts we owed. The Resurrection was the final manifestation that the love of God is stronger than the power of sin."
