The Calvary every family walks at one time or another
After introducing this special series on the weekend of the special Jubilee of Families held October 13-14 in Rome, we continue today with the nineteenth lesson. Today we begin part one of a section called We are Family! in which Cyndi shares the Calvary her family faced in coming closer to God. Just as Christ has told us so often that we must take up our Cross daily and follow Him, it is never easy and often times we may not even realize why we must walk the way of the Cross on this earth. Her revelations show how God works in a family's life to guide them along this path, never giving us too much to bear but always testing our mettle, preparing us for greater sufferings and rewards as He sees fit in His time. The times Cyndi shares with the reader today recount the time before our conversion of heart and how, through our own finiteness, we stumbled, fell, but kept on going despite the odds, despite the world.

Attention Archbishop Cronin and Bishop Hart: We implore you to call Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd to task for his unyielding pro-abort stance.
Today's "Herod's Hero" is from Connecticut. Senator Christopher Dodd lives in the Diocese of Norwich under the jurisdiction of Bishop Daniel Hart and his working office in Connecticutt is in the Archdiocese of Hartford where Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin is the shepherd. Dodd's father was one of the leading prosecutors of the Nazi war criminals and those responsible for the holocaust. What do you think he would say today in discovering his own son is responsible for the Holocaust of the Womb? We know what the Son of God says in today's Gospel reading: "It is not the healthy who need a physician, but they who are sick. I have not come to call the just, but sinners, to repentance." We call on him to repent and for his bishops along with Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Shepherd of the nation's capitol see to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if he will not hear even the Church. For another betrayer who seeks to perpetuate the culture of death, see HEROD'S HEROES

Pope meets with Lebanese Leader in Vatican; Mideast top issue discussed
Pope John Paul II welcomed to the Vatican yesterday Lebanon's President Emile Lahoud, a Maronite-rite Catholic. In a press statement, Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said: "The discussions offered the opportunity to reaffirm the particular ties that unite Lebanon with the Holy See, which hopes that the country will once again have the role it is entitled to in the Middle East." Lahoud is the general who reformed the Lebanese army after the civil war. The press statement clarified that both the Pope and Lahoud expressed the opinion that "only a real path of national reconciliation will allow the country to surmount the present difficulties and become again a 'message' of coexistence among peoples of different cultures and religiosity." Catholic Relief Services urges U.S. Congress to do more for quake victims in India
In a congressional hearing this week both Catholic Relief Services officials and the U.S. Ambassador to India Richard Celeste both agreed that the United States needs to do more financial and manpower help for the quake victims in India. The quake was 30x's more powerful than the one the other day in Seattle. What contributed to further disaster was that the area hit in India is impoverished and drought and poor living conditions, not to mention shoddy construction, have added to the woes of the people. Over 19,000 people died and 150,000 were injured in the devastating quake that struck the northwest area of India on January 26th. Damages are currently at over $2 billion. For more, see USA News

Ohio judge refuses to back down over her staunch, loyal Pro Life stand
If only we had more Judge Patricia Cleary's on the Supreme Court there would be great hope for the Sanctity of Life. But right now she's persona non grata and being suspended because of her Pro Life views all because she made it more difficult for an irresponsible woman to get an abortion by sentencing her to six months in prison. Enter the ACLU - who else!? and now the criminal is viewed as the victim in this liberal society where justice means nothing. Judge Cleary will not be deterred. She is appealing it all the way to the Supreme Court if she has to! Way to go Judge! For more, see Pro Life News

Chaldean Patriarch to U.S: "Stop the Bombing Now!"
Chaldean Catholic Patriarch says US and Britain bombings are helping no one, only playing right into Saddam's hands and gaining sympathy for the Despot
The highest authority of the Catholic Church in Iraq Chaldean Patriarch Raphael Bidawid warned the US and Great Britain that the more they bomb Iraq and continue the sanctions, the more they are empowering Saddam Hussein with his Arab brothers. Rather than detaining the Iraqi leader, the bombing allows him to appear as the victim trying to protect the poor people of Iraq who are under attack by the great satan of the west. In truth, Hussein has killed hundreds of thousands, but he is using the recent attacks as an excuse and only cease fire and lifting of the sanctions will expose Saddam's lies. The election of the Pope who established Papal Supremacy
It was on this date in 1431 that Pope Eugene IV was chosen the 207th successor of Peter, replacing the deceased Pope Martin V who had caused the Council of Basle to rule that Councils have more power than the Pope. In the long struggle during Eugene's papacy, he lost many battles but ultimately won the war and papal supremacy was forever established. It was the breakthrough Rome needed to prevent the Catholic Church from becoming a democracy like the Protestant churches are and continuing the apostolic succession of Peter as head of the Church. This supremacy is outlined in Canon Law 331-335. The decree at Florence where the issue was finalized and recognized Eugene as the Supreme Pontiff, is further clarified in Canon Law article 338 which states, "It is for the Roman Pontiff alone to convoke an ecumenical council, to preside over it personally or through others, to transfer, suspend or dissolve it, and to approve its decrees. 2. It is for the same Roman Pontiff to determine matters to be treated in a council and to establish the order to be followed in a council; to the questions proposed by the Roman Pontiff the fathers of a council can add other questions, to be approved by the same Roman Pontiff. It takes courage to follow your convictions
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"Humility is required to challenge mediocrity; one must be ready to brave the taunts of those who knock anyone in the head who raises himself above the masses."
